Job Title: Senior Vice President (SVP), Senior Credit OfficerLocation: Los Angeles, CADepartment: Credit Risk ManagementReports to: Chief Credit Officer (CCO) or Executive Management
Job Overview:As the Senior Vice President (SVP), Senior Credit Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the bank's credit portfolio, ensuring sound credit practices, and aligning lending policies with regulatory requirements and risk appetite. You will provide strategic leadership in credit decision-making, manage high-value and complex credit relationships, and serve as a key contributor to the growth and stability of the bank's lending activities. This role requires deep expertise in credit risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and relationship management, with a focus on lending in the Los Angeles market.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Credit Oversight: Oversee the bank's credit portfolio, including approval and review of large and complex credit transactions, ensuring alignment with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
  • Credit Strategy: Develop and implement credit policies and strategies in collaboration with the Chief Credit Officer to achieve business objectives while managing credit risk.
  • Risk Management: Monitor and assess credit risk, identifying potential problem loans, and working with relationship managers to mitigate risks.
  • Credit Approvals: Approve or recommend loan requests, including structuring and pricing of complex commercial, real estate, and business loans.
  • Credit Analysis & Due Diligence: Lead thorough analysis and due diligence processes on prospective and existing loans, focusing on financial statements, collateral, market conditions, and industry risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and credit underwriting standards, including staying informed about relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of credit officers and analysts, providing guidance on complex transactions and professional development.
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor loan portfolios for potential risks, problem credits, and opportunities for portfolio expansion or improvement.
  • Collaboration with Senior Leadership: Work closely with senior management, the Board of Directors, and other internal departments (Risk, Compliance, Finance) to maintain strong governance over credit policies and procedures.
  • Client Relations: Foster and maintain relationships with key clients, borrowers, and business leaders in the Los Angeles market, positioning the bank as a trusted financial partner.
  • Market Insight: Stay abreast of economic trends, competitive practices, and emerging risks in the Los Angeles banking and real estate markets.
    Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. MBA preferred
    • Experience: Minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in credit risk management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in a commercial banking environment.
    • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of credit analysis, financial modeling, loan structuring, and risk management principles. Proficient with banking software and credit evaluation tools.
    • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of federal and state banking regulations, particularly in credit risk and lending.
    • Leadership Abilities: Proven track record of managing high-performing teams and driving credit performance in a commercial banking setting.
    • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels both internally and externally.
    • Market Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the Los Angeles market, with established relationships and an understanding of local industries and economic conditions.
